Driver: San Francisco, first thoughts

August 26th, 2011 | Posted by Lee in Gaming - (0 Comments)

Sooo, I downloaded the demo for Driver: San Francisco from Xbox market place, features the usual chaotic chases through urban areas, but this time there’s something about Tanner that’s “different”, I refer to the below video.

So Tanner can now perform outer body experiences at will, why he can’t do this, jump into Jericho’s body, drive him to a suicidal death and finally be rid of him I don’t know -.-… Read the rest

Setting up mIRC for use on UKChatterbox [Basic]

This is a basic run-through of the mIRC installation process and setting it up to connect to UKChatterbox.

  1. Downloading mIRC: Click the following link which contains the download for the latest version of mIRC from it’s website: http://www.mirc.com/get.php. Once it’s downloaded run the mIRC set-up program, currently this is titled mirc719.exe, you should get something like the following picture, click”Run”.
  2. Once the mIRC Setup Wizard starts, click Next, Agree to the license,  Select a folder, I recommend changing it’s default, clicking “Browse” and select Desktop, this is easier for you to get to if you intend on adding scripts to it, then click Next. On the Choose components page, leave it as Full, with ALL of the check boxes ticked. Click Next and make sure ALL of the boxes are ticked, this will probably mean just ticking the bottom one for “Run as portable application”. The portable application option allows the configuration file and scripts to go into our Desktop/mIRC folder, if we hadn’t ticked it, scripts would go into a “hidden” file in c:/Users/USERNAME/AppData/Roaming/mIRC, which is a nuisance for the average user to get to. Now we’re ready to setup mIRC.
  3. Click the Run mIRC box and Finish. When mIRC opens you’ll be presented with an About page, and Register/Continue buttons. Click Continue this time, and every time you run mIRC. mIRC is freeware and doesn’t require registration. You should now have the mIRC Options dialogue.
For Nickname enter your UKCB username: eg LEthaLity.

New 1.9 Module hs_autoupdate

August 23rd, 2011 | Posted by Lee in Anope - (0 Comments)
Anope

I’ve just ported one of my previous 1.8 modules that I never released for use on 1.9, the module is hs_autoupdate. If a users vhost is SET, ACTIVATED, altered or DELETED this module will automatically apply the new vhost to the user if they’re currently on IRC. If a users vhost is deleted it will remove it and apply normal cloaking.

Tested on Anope-1.9.5-ga2f92b6-is-both-the-chicken-and-the-egg (190) with Unreal-3.2.9-rc1.

Getting the old MSN messenger. [Basic]

This is a real basic how-to, but something I constantly find people asking about. Most people don’t like the new Microsoft Live messenger, and soon regret ever updating to it, hard to avoid in the first place as Microsoft flag it as recommended in Windows updates.

Not many people know, but Microsoft do keep the old messenger themselves, this is to account for people on Windows XP, which doesn’t support the new Live essentials stuff. Follow the steps below to uninstall live essentials and get the old messenger back, if you don’t have the new messenger skip to step 2.

  1. Removing the new Live Messenger and Essentials. This is the part most people have problems with. Click the Windows Orb (Start button) , then Control Panel. Under Programs click Uninstall a program. Go to the bottom and you’ll see “Windows Live Essentials 2011″, this contains Live messenger. Right click it then click Uninstall/Change. Select “Remove one or more Windows Live programs”, for the old messenger to install we need to lose all trace of Essentials, so select ALL of the boxes then click the Uninstall button. Afterwards you should restart your pc.
  2. Go to http://explore.live.com/windows-live-Messenger-XP. This is the old msn that everyone used to know and love, allowing you to block users, etc. I recommend getting it from here and not one of the 3rd party sites. Next to the download button, select your language, then click Download.
  3. Once it’s downloaded select messenger, you’ll probably want the

Getting that Facebook video [Advanced]

August 19th, 2011 | Posted by Lee in geeky-stuff - (0 Comments)

Many users know how to get videos and music off existing sources that were designed to be viewed live, eg youtube, whether it’s using a downloaded program or a 3rd party website that rips the content and allows you to download it.
Users wanting to download somebody else’s video of Facebook will realize this isn’t possible, and third party methods are most probably ruled out because of privacy settings.

There is a way though, using your browsers (Firefox in this case) cache. A cache is a copy of something that your computer stores enabling you to access it faster next time, without the need to re-download the content from the server.

  1. Go to the video page using Firefox, don’t play it yet.
  2. Click the Start button, click your user name that you’re logged into Windows with. eg mine is LEthaLity. You should see a folder called AppData, if you do skip to step 4, if not, read on.
  3. You need to enable the viewing of hidden folders, click the organise button in the top left, ->Folder and Search Options, then click the View tab, under Files and Folders there’s a “Hidden files and folders” option. Click the radio button enabling “Show hidden files, folders, and drives”. Then click Apply, and ok, you should now see AppData.
  4. Enter AppData, then click Local->Mozilla->Firefox->Profiles. You will then see a folder named in the following manner “imm40evz.default”, the bit before default will probably be different for you. Enter this folder, then go into Cache.

Welcome

August 19th, 2011 | Posted by Lee in Notices - (0 Comments)

Hi and welcome to my new, hopefully improved personal hideout and hub for everything I’m involved in. Why the change? The old system (Drupal) aside from being quite slow, required a lot of attention as far as updating the core and plug-ins went, this new site (WordPress), is perfect for regular postings and I’ve seen it used on quite a few larger community sites. If however you just so happen to be wondering what CMS or website software to use, I’d still recommend Drupal first, above Joomla, for reasons that will probably form another separate post.

So hopefully, this new layout will be a lot easier to use and find stuff you’re interested in. I dabble in numerous areas from photoshop/image-manipulation, web designing and programming (html, php, etc), I’m also pretty competent in c/c++/mSL. You’ll find other miscellaneous tech/geek stuff covering hardware and software too, so I’m sure there’s something for everyone.

That’s all for now, whilst I go and repopulate the rest of the site, see ya!
